In fact, many wholeheartedly believed it would be there following a potential Hollow Knight: Silksong Tease. Matthew Griffin, marketing and publishing on the Team Cherry title, responded to a Geoff Keighley tweet ahead of the showcase. Keighley had implied he got a new world premiere in his inbox, with Griffin saying he approves of the tease. It’s not a stretch, then, to think that Keighley and Griffin were teasing Hollow Knight: Silksong’s presence at Summer Game Fest.

Now, the showcase has come and gone. There are still more Summer Game Fest-related events going on, like Day of the Devs, but since Silksong was not on that first stage, it’s not likely to appear later either. It could still pop up at another showcase this June, or later this year, but Team Cherry has been in heads-down development mode and hasn’t publicly teased or suggested anything.

Of course, that doesn’t mean those hoping to see the game aren’t upset. Hollow Knight: Silksong trends online following Summer Game Fest, with many fans sharing memes or expressing their frustrations that the game wasn’t there. Team Cherry will no doubt show Hollow Knight: Silksong when it’s ready, but it’s no secret that it’s a small team and development is no easy feat.

Many have compared Hollow Knight: Silksong to Elden Ring, which fits almost perfectly. Elden Ring was a hotly anticipated game that, event after event, never showed its face, with fans often reacting similarly to Silksong fans. Of course, Elden Ring is out now and fans are already excited and hoping for Elden Ring DLC, but Silksong seems to be following the same approach as Elden Ring prior to its pre-release marketing: staying quiet.

Anyone suggesting Hollow Knight: Silksong is the indie equivalent of Elden Ring wouldn’t be wrong, as far as how fan hopes tie into showcases. Fans will just have to wait for Team Cherry’s next showcase, and hopefully just like Elden Ring, it lives up to fan expectations.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is in development for Nintendo Switch and PC.
