Kicking off the trailer, fans get to see some of the mythical creatures they’ll encounter throughout their journey, including staples like Centaurs and Trolls. The Harry Potter franchise has always placed a special emphasis on the creatures that inhabit the world, so it’s not surprising that they were given the spotlight, if briefly. Of course, the trailer also holds some other major information.

Running on PS5, the gameplay demo also shows off amazing shots of Hogwarts itself, which the development team says in a follow up video was hard to recreate perfectly. Hogwarts is undoubtedly the most iconic element of the Harry Potter franchises as a whole, being the fuel for countless daydreams for those that read the book series. The halls of Hogwarts look stunning in the trailer, and it’s clear that a lot of love went into them.
Following the trend of other recent games, there are also a lot of particle effects to behold as the trailer narrows in on spells and combat. It’s all very flashy, as players prance around their opponents using a variety of spells they’ll undoubtedly learn as they progress their way through Hogwarts Legacy. The repertoire of spells is also a key part of the Harry Potter mythos, and it’s reassuring to see so many of them featured in the gameplay demo.
Later on in the trailer, fans get to see some other crucial elements, like broom riding, Hogsmeade, and how the game’s map changes between seasons. Hogwarts Legacy certainly looks like it will be a large game, with the developers teasing that there will be plenty of secrets to uncover tucked away in all of Hogwarts’ nooks and crannies.
Unfortunately, the gameplay demo didn’t go so far as to give a solid release window. Hogwarts Legacy still just has a vague “holiday 2022” date associated with it, which narrows it down but isn’t quite what fans wanted. WB Games has been adamant that Hogwarts Legacy will release this year, but any delay – even a small one – would almost certainly knock it to 2023.
