As part of the clip, there’s a small description of the Mooncalf, giving players a small glimpse into what to expect from the adorable creature. It’s currently unknown how much players will be able to interact with these beasts, although it could add another layer of gameplay to Hogwarts Legacy. The tweet says that the Mooncalf “comes to life under the light of a full moon.” This implies the existence of a day-night cycle in the game. The developers boast that Hogwarts Legacy will be a huge open-world experience, and a day-night cycle would be a brilliant way to allow players to explore the famous Hogwarts castle in ways they’ve never seen before.
The short clip is consistent with the way Avalanche Software and Warner Bros. have chosen to market the game. Each feature of the game has been shown through short Twitter clips, allowing a steady stream of content for players to digest before the release of the game next month. Even the iconic Sorting Hat got its own showcase clip. With the amount of potential content in Hogwarts Legacy, players should expect to see plenty more of these clips in the coming weeks.
With Harry Potter games traditionally restricted to film adaptations, players are excited to finally play a Wizarding World title that can openly explore the potential of that universe. Player choice has never been an option for fans of the franchise in the past. With Hogwarts Legacy having a strong RPG focus, player choice will be crucial to the game.
Hogwarts Legacy launches February 10 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, April 4 for PS4 and Xbox One, and July 25 for Nintendo Switch.
