Peeves, for those unfamiliar with the Harry Potter books, is a poltergeist. While his exact origin isn’t clear, he’s believed to be a manifestation of student mischief that goes back to the founding of the Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. He spends his time pulling pranks and being generally annoying. While his shenanigans can be extreme, Peeves does have a moral base. He took issue with the nefarious Defense Against the Dark Arts professor Dolores Umbridge, and even fought against Voldemort and the Death Eaters during the Battle of Hogwarts.

The latest gameplay clip for Hogwarts Legacy was shared on the Wizarding World TikTok. The players are exploring the halls of Hogwarts when one player say they heard something. It’s the high-pitched voice of Peeves, which is hard to miss. The player then turns around to see Peeves dancing around a student picking up a stack of books that have fallen to the floor. It can be safely assumed Peeves played a role in the incident.

This isn’t the first time that Peeves has been shown in Hogwarts Legacy, of course. A teaser trailer as far back as March confirmed that the poltergeist is part of the upcoming open-world video game. Another Hogwarts Legacy teaser trailer released in September showed the poltergeist juggling with flaming bowling pins. They’re unlikely to be a major character, but rather will be someone players stumble on in funny situations from time to time.

Peeves is a great example of Avalanche Software bringing the world of Harry Potter to life. The poltergeist is a rare character that makes sense being in Hogwarts even decades prior to the events of Harry Potter. It connects the game with the story Harry Potter fans remember, and it makes perfect sense for him to be there.

Peeves isn’t the only character that Avalanche Software is bringing to the game to make Hogwarts Legacy a more well-realized world. Nearly-Headless Nick, Professor Binns, Gryffindor’s Fat Lady painting, and even an ancestor of Garrick Ollivander will be found in the game. They’re likely just a few familiar faces, too. Expect a mix of surprises and familiar Harry Potter references spread throughout Hogwarts Legacy.

Hogwarts Legacy releases February 10 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, April 4 on PS4 and Xbox One, and July 25 on Switch.
